University of Strathclyde team complete live-build shelter project

This brief generated some 67 initial designs which were soon whittled down to 20 ideas which were discussed further, prompting a vigorous debate.
When the dust had settled 10 structures were taken forward to construction as part of the live build, a process which entailed production of scale prototypes and drawings and the prefabrication of elements using the department workshop.
Subsequent to this the year group decamped to Wiston Lodge, Lanarkshire, to erect their shelters over a two day period.
Year 1 studio director Derek Hill Said: “Their designs evolved without context, were considered through reclaimed and salvaged materiality and explored the very nature of the notion of ‘shelter’.
“The design medium was physical modeling with students encouraged to work with materials representative of the look, feel and characteristics of the actual materials proposed.”
The 10 completed shelters were duly handed over to the care of Wiston Lodge and are pictured below:
A contemplative cubby hole from which to mull the forest
Mind your head
Some shelters offer more protection against the elements than others
The pieces remain in-situ at Wiston Lodge, forming an ad hoc sculpture park
The projects are unified by their use of timber
This angular construct was seemingly inspired by a house of cards
This elaborate throne comes equipped with a sculptural parasol
This pile of refuse isn't what it seems
Visitors seeking respite from inclement November weather are encouraged to make use of the creations

Explore the very nature of 'shelter'? Or explore a new level of pretentiousness?

'A place giving temporary protection from bad weather or danger.'
I suggest therefore that roofs and / or walls might be a good idea?
Seriously guys, this has been going on since I was at Strathers. Tutors obsessed with turning out part time sculptors and joiners - bad ones at that. Why not try and teach some architecture and urban design on Rottenrow?

Hands on building experience and fabrication is, I think, a great achievement 6 weeks into their education in architecture. Smiling faces, pride in their work and an absolute spirit of togetherness is even more important.

my sister Sevi always makes me proud....!!walt i needed walls and roof too,but architecture IS NOT 1 thing....thnx God we have moments of exploring materials, nature, and co-students....

Whilst not all the projects provide a literal roof and walls shelter, all of them attempt to focus a view, highlight a feature in the grounds or provide a place of solace.
