BDP complete £170m Victoria Hospital extension
A new £170m wing has been opened at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, incorporating 500 beds alongside eleven operating theatres and a new A+E department.

Designed by BDP and delivered by Balfour Beatty for NHS Fife through a public private partnership the facility adopts a sweeping geometry which is intended to relate to the pre-existing hospital.

This has to balance the urban nature of the hospital with the suburban nature of adjoining residential estates.

A podium and tower format sees diagnostic and treatment areas located in the former, each subdivided by wide landscaped courtyards to assist with lighting and orientation.

Wards are stacked above this level in a succession of straight and wave form elements.

WYG Group acted as structural engineer whilst Hulley Kirkwood were employed as services engineering.
The new wing offers a range of services including maternity, paediatric, renal and critical care
