Urban Realm launches best engineers survey
Urban Realm is instigating a hunt for engineering firms which have built themselves a reputation for structural derring-do and servicing innovation for our autumn edition, part of a series of in-depth looks at key sectors of the construction industry.

To kick things off we've identified a plethora of firms who could be following up Britain's Olympic success with an award of their own - but before we do so we need your help to identify your own choice picks via our online poll.

The winning teams will be profiled in October complete with interviews with the engineers who have performed the most impressive structural gymnastics.

A deadline for entries has been set for August 31 so don't delay vote today!

I can't think of one M&E firm that even deserves a basic mention never mind being accredited with 'servicing innovation'.

Indeed David - if UR can scare up an M+E Engineer that even produces more than a performance spec for a job, leaving it all to the subby, then they should get a prize themselves...

Come to think of it - UR why not launch a best sub contractor hunt?

And have you done an a best architect hunt before?

I can understand an architect frustrated at working with M&E engineers appointed on a performance spec basis. However, perhaps the question of why M&E engineers are not doing the full design, like the rest of the team, should be addressed to those that appoint us on that basis rather than paying us to do full design ? It is not usually the choice of the M&E engineer, I can assure you.

Absolutely agreed M&E - it is frustrating though to see how this has become the norm almost with clients generally not considering or entertaining anything further. Makes building a cohesive design team a little more diffcult as M&E consultants are naturally going to curtail their service to their fee level (something architects would do well to learn, at the risk of being replaced with contractor designers I suppose)
