Construction commences on £1bn Winchburgh New Town
Construction work on phase one of a £1bn New Town, billed as Scotland’s largest new urban community, has commenced construction in West Lothian.

It will see 550 houses built by 2017 around the existing village of Winchburgh, built by Miller Homes and Barratt, following the expansion of Linlithgow Academy by West Lothian Council to accommodate the population influx.

Winchburgh will take 15 years to bring to full fruition and will ultimately entail the development of 900 acres of agricultural land and a former landfill around the existing village.

This land will provide 3,450 new homes; as well as commercial and retail facilities, a school and community space.

Sigma Capital are project managing the development on behalf of developer Regenco.

Broxburn is a lovely part of the world. I can really see why predominantly professional, decent and respectable people who cherish bourgeois values would be desperate to live there.
How long before the local Broxburn branch of the Orange Lodge will demanding to march through the "Queens Highway" which no doubt will run along the new towns yet to be built main artery.
Have these people thought this through with any great detail?
Great to see more greenbelt and useless agricultural land being swallowed up by a much needed New Town- will there be enough parking for all the cars needed to commute to Edinburgh and Glasgow or the nearest supermarket?
Will any of the local proletariat ( you know, the invisible working class) be representative within the resident population of New Winchburgh?
Questions. Questions. Questions...maybe many of the answers will come to fruition fifteen years or so from now?
