Fort George Highlanders’ Museum nets funding boost
Historic Scotland has awarded a grant of £130k toward a £2.9m appeal to build a new Highland Military Heritage Centre.

The new Highlanders’ Museum is now just £150k short of this total as construction work commences this week to upgrade the existing facility, which houses the regimental collections of the Seaforths, Camerons, Lovat Scouts Queen’s Own Highlanders and The Highlanders.

Designed by Edinburgh based Studio SP (with McGregor Bowes acting as conservation architect) this will focus on interpretation, care, access and education when it opens in three years time

Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs said: “Our Scottish history and heritage is an invaluable resource not only for Scots but also for visitors from around the world. The Highlanders’ Museum will give people the opportunity to learn about the moving story of the Highlands as it has developed over the past 300 years.

“It will also highlight the hugely important role of our regiments, both past and present.”
Most of the work will involve reconfiguring interior spaces
