Glasgow School of Art demolition progresses

Demolition work on the site of Stephen Holl’s planned extension for the Glasgow School of Art is proceeding apace with Keppie’s Newbery Tower all but erased from the skyline.

The Garnethill landmark has been raised in preparation for the erection of Steven Holl’s matte glass replacement, designed to serve as a more appropriate reference to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s main building than the jarring concrete monolith.

Demolition contractors Keltbray are conducting the demolition, which is taking place on a tricky constrained site and further complicated by the need to preserve the inter-war Assembly building.

The careful floor by floor demolition process is expected to be complete by mid February.

Leave my boy Steven alone. You just he hatin' on him! I mean, who would you rather designed the building -- 3DReid or Keppie's? pmsl.

So what if every building Steve designs looks the same, what with that opaque, icy glass facade he so loves.
