FAT architects BBC design in Casualty
FAT architects have cooked up a slice of dramatic TV-AM styled facadism for a planned BBC drama centre at Cardiff Bay.

Ditching plastic egg cups for decorative pre-cast “gothic” and “space age” elements the wavy motif is intended to reference the water, hills and coal which have played an integral role in the development of the dockside.

Through the prism of eighties post-modernism it also salutes Victorian architect William Burges’ work, who sought a return to the imagined values of mediaeval England.

Developed by Igloo Regeneration the drama centre forms the first phase of a wider digital media hub masterplanned by DEGW.

Ultimately the centre will double the BBC’s television production in Wales by 2016, allowing drama productions such as Casualty to be located to the site.

Subject to planning approval the  project could proceed on site within months.
