Plans to demolish a B listed Romanesque style church in Dundee have stoked controversy with a split in opinion between Historic Scotland and those who wish the site redeveloped.

Parishioners wish to spend £1m for a new community venue on the site of Craigiebank Parish Church whilst surrounding land is sold off to local housing associations for the development of affordable homes.

Historic Scotland is resisting the plans but architects James F. Stephen are said to enjoy the backing of the majority of the congregation and local residents.

The church suffers from water ingress that is compounded by the porous stone used in construction, requiring thousands of pounds to repair.
