Massie warms to Iceland with three hot projects
Graeme Massie Architects have won a competition to redesign the Old Harbour area of Reykjavic, Iceland, the practices third such success in the northern European outpost.

One of the largest such masterplans in the country this will outline an overarching framework for the harbour area, tying together major facilities such as a new concert hall by Henning Larsen with improved links to the city centre.

Massie intends to develop “a new identity” for the area by referencing its landscape and an offshore archipelago, stating: “A flexible arrangement of development islands is proposed, each of which assumes a unique identity defined by location, function, typological form and character.”

The project has been organised and funded by Associated Icelandic Ports.
