Bre Scotland announce Ravenscraig development partners
Building Research Establishment (BRE) Scotland and Ravenscraig Ltd have revealed the companies tasked with building Scotland’s homes of the future at an innovation park on the former Lanarkshire steelworks.

So far four consortiums comprising CCG Scotland with Places for People; Powerwall Systems with Lovell Homes; Build ICF and Kraft Architecture have been appointed. An open day will be held on Friday October 23 at Motherwell College to afford other organisations opportunity to become involved in the project.

Six full scale demonstrator houses will eventually be constructed to showcase how such issues as affordability, energy efficiency, carbon emissions, sustainable construction and recycled materials could be addressed in future. It is hoped that techniques pioneered here will inform house building in a similar fashion to BRE’s sister park in Watford.

£500k of funding from North Lanarkshire Council will be used to complete landscape and infrastructure works to designs by MacFarlane Wilder, including new roads, street lighting and a SUDS system.

A planning application is to be submitted shortly with work anticipated to commence on site by January 2010.
