Over the past three months five leading architectural firms have been beavering away on designs for a model LEGO villa in utmost secrecy.  Now we can present a taster presentation in anticipation of the Scottish Design Awards.

Pictures on these pages are progress shorts of the contenders in Prospect's Lego Challenge.

Regular readers will know that we invited five of Scotlands top architects to commune with their inner child and design and build villas out of lego.

Featured on this page is work-in-progress shots from gm+ad, Aedas, RMJM and Michael Gilmour Associates. Gareth Hoskins, whose work is not featured here, is also taking part.

However, you will soon have a chance to see all this work in the flesh. For the completed models will be displayed at the Scottish Design Awards nominations exhibition which will be held at Glasgow's Fruitmarket Gallery on18 March.

There you will not only have a chance to vote for the model you deem to be the best, but will have an opportunity to bid for one of the villas. All proceeds will go to the National Autistic Society Scotland.

Meanwhile, tension is also building as far as the Scottish Design Awards themselves are concerned. Entry levels are strong despite the credit crunch and the jury of Ian Goodfellow; Penoyre & Prasad, Denis Sharp; Denis Sharp Architects, Robert Adam; Robert Adam Architects, Paul Zara; Conran & Partners, Ivan Harbour; Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Chris Jones; Carey Jones will be meeting around the time this magazine lands on desks.

Tickets for the nominations evening are now available by contacting Lisa Fraser either at lisa.fraser@carnyx.com or phoning 0141 559 6064.

The results of the 2009 Scottish Design Awards and our Lego Challenge will be announced at the gala awards dinner on 29 May at the Crowne Plaza, Glasgow. To book tickets contact Kim Baran on 0141 559 6078 or kim.baran@carnyx.com.
Prospect would like to thank SO Creative for their help in promoting our Lego Challenge.

Donations to the National Autism Society Scotland are welcomed.
